In the moment of emergency linked to the pandemic, community services are increasingly needed. The world of volunteering offers valuable support to institutions, becoming an indispensable point of reference for a growing number of people in difficulty. For this reason Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo con Caritas Livorno contributed to the creation of a free training course to approach volunteering, aimed at people with basic education levels, to encourage their participation in civil life and make a contribution to the community, rediscovering themselves useful.

The “Capacity building course. A path to active citizenship and introduction to volunteering” will be introduced on Friday 6th November at 10 am by an online seminar through the Zoom platform (link https://bit.ly/2JyhGTW, ID meeting: 987 9273 4410, passcode 517475). Speakers are Paolo Nanni (sole administrator of Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo), Raffaella Spiezio (president of Caritas Livorno), Maria Giovanna Lotti (manager of the Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo), and local associations involved in social services.

The activity is carried out as part of the Erasmus + EVOLVE project, implemented with bodies, training agencies and organizations in Italy, Cyprus, Greece and Luxembourg, which encourages the participation in civil life of low-skilled adults through volunteering, supporting their integration in the community’s life and make a concrete contribution to organizations operating in the social sector.

In fact, the course aims at strengthen the skills of reading and interpreting texts, of calculation applied to daily life, provides digital skills, addresses the methods of communication and empathy to get in touch with even fragile people, and finally helps to discover the value of volunteering and the network of social and civic services in our area. It has a duration of approximately 28 hours, among which 20 online and 8 in the presence (or in the manner permitted by the emergency), and is accessible free of charge from the EVOLVE project platform upon registration and with the use of credentials. The first classroom group is reserved to 15 people, who can be supported in teaching in an office in Livorno, and carry out practical activities with operators. At the end of the theoretical training the students have the opportunity to carry out about two months of practice in the voluntary organizations that offer social services to the community.
